Biosan DNA/RNA UV-cleaner box

Commercial house: Biosan

Unit: 1

Location: Room 312

The DNA/RNA UV-cleaner box UVT-S-AR is designed for clean operations with DNA samples. UV-cleaner box provide protection against contamination.

The model is a bench-top type, consisting of a metal framework, glass walls and a working surface made of stainless steel.

UV-cleaner boxes are equipped with an open UV lamp installed in the upper hood. UV-radiation from the open lamps disinfects the working area inactivating DNA/RNA fragments for 15–30 min of exposure. A digital timer controls duration of the direct UV irradiation. A daylight lamp provides proper illumination of the working surface.

UV-cleaner boxes are equipped with a flow-type bactericidal UV cleaner–recirculator AR, which provides constant decontamination inside the box during operation. They are recommended for operations using DNA/RNA amplicons.

The UV cleaner–recirculator AR consists of a UV lamp, a fan and dust filters organized in a device so that a user working with a UV-cleaner box is protected against UV light. The recirculator increases the maximum density of UV light making it sufficiently effective for DNA/RNA inactivation. The UV–recirculator processes 100 UV-cleaner box volumes per hour, creating permanent aseptic conditions of operation inside the UV-cleaner box.

Moving tables T-4L (with wheel locks) and drawers are available on request.

Advantages of Biosan UV-cleaner boxes:

  • Ozone free-high density UV decontamination.
  • Long life UV lamps (9000 hours average).
  • UV lamps switch off automatically when the protective screen open.
  • The bactericidal flow-type recirculator provides permanent decontamination inside UV – cleaner box during operation.
  • Shockproof glass walls.
  • Silent, low energy consumption.
  • Tables for installation of UV-cleaner boxes.
  • UV-cleaner boxes with the bactericidal UV cleaner–recirculator AR is the patented Biosan solution.

The instrument is used by our staff to carry out experiments requested by internal and external users involving amplicons.

Location: Room 312

The epMotion 5075 LH is the perfect solution for more complex pipetting tasks such as qPCR experiments in 384-well plates. The 12 lid positions and the option for automatically changing pipetting tools make the epMotion 5075 LH the most flexible automated pipetting system.

The instrument is used by our staff to carry out RT, conventional PCR and qPCR reactions requested by internal and external users.

ABI PRISM 7900HT SDS

Commercial house: Applied Biosystems

Unit: 1

Location: Room 312

The Applied Biosystems 7900HT Fast Real-Time PCR System is a 384-well second-generation sequence detection system instrument designed for automated, high-throughput detection of fluorescent PCR-related chemistries. The instrument is capable of real-time, endpoint, and dissociation curve analysis of assays organized in multiple formats. The 7900HT instrument is optimized to use with Applied Biosystems chemistries for nucleic acid quantification and detection.
This instrument is available for all users including the Genomics Facility Staff. Therefore a few rules have been put in place to optimize said use.

Best practices and booking of the ABI PRISM 7900HT equipment:

  1. The maximum advance reservation time of this equipment is one week (both in the morning or in the afternoon).
  2. Bookings are limited up to 3 hours per research group per day, from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (peak hours). Additional bookings, outside of that time-frame, can be made. Exception to the aforementioned: from 12 noon on the day before the date of the reservation, additional reservations may be made without a time limit.
  3. It is allowed to start the runs without the obligation to remain in the center to turn off the equipment after use it. However, it is important to consider the economic and ecological cost involved. Please also note that the heat emitted when the device is switched on during the night, makes uncomfortable to work the following day. We would therefore ask for your cooperation to a more rational use of the procedure.
  4. Remember to use chemical “fast” where possible as it significantly reduces the duration of the runs.
  5. Adjust the duration of the reservation strictly to that of the run, avoiding margins of «security» or programming / analysis (as a practical example, half an hour of margin in each user reduces daily availability in one or two runs). The programming and analysis software we put at your disposal for installation on your computer.
  6. Bookings must be respected at the time the user made its reservation, since the shared use of the equipment, outside the booked hours, affects the work schedule of your colleagues.
  7. Let the next user know, if in spite of all the measures explained beforehand, you are going to arrive early or late to your scheduled reservation time.
  8. Avoid extra bookings (those to prevent) because those can generate cancellations and no one can take advantage of.
  9. In case you cancel the booking, please notify as soon as possible to allow rescheduling by other user.

LightCycler

Commercial house: Roche

Unit: 3

Location: Room 264

The Service has three of these devices, located in room 264, on the second floor. These devices are designed to carry out PCR and RT-PCR tests in real time by using different types of fluorescent labels. A blue light emits diode at 470 nm and three signal detector channels at 530 nm (green), 640 nm (red) and 710 nm (red). The reactions are carried out in glass capillaries (max 32 per race). The procedure takes place on the computer screen in real time.
