Why outsourcing?
Since there are not sequencing platforms in the Facility, our services don’t rely on one specific technology. This allows us to provide comprehensive support for experimental design and data analysis and offer help for outsourcing and contracting external services.
We have been working in a long partnership with several external facilities that offer different types of sequencing technologies:
- Illumina Sequencing Technology
Illumina sequencing technology leverages clonal array formation and proprietary reversible terminator technology for rapid and accurate large-scale sequencing. The innovative and flexible sequencing system enables a broad array of applications in genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics. Here is a video illustrating the Illumina sequencing by synthesis (SBS).
- SMRT Sequencing (Pacific BioSciences)
Single Molecule, Real-Time (SMRT) Sequencing is the PacBio core technology powering their long-read sequencing platforms. With reads tens of kilobases in length you can readily assemble complete genomes and sequence full-length transcripts. In this video, an introduction to Pacific Biosciences’ Single Molecule, Real-Time (SMRT) Sequencing can be seen.
- Nanopore Sequencing
Nanopore sequencing is a unique, scalable technology that enables direct, real-time analysis of long DNA or RNA fragments. It works by monitoring changes to an electrical current as nucleic acids are passed through a protein nanopore. The resulting signal is decoded to provide the specific DNA or RNA sequence. Here is an animation illustrating the Nanopore sequencing technology.
However, we are always eager to learn! If you are interested in other technologies please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We are not afraid of challenges!
